| | Since James and Drew are as lame as Mike Hampton's arm will be after one regular season inning and won't start their sports blog, I guess in the meantime I'll start rambling about the Hawks and whatever else is on my mind. Maybe do some fantasy analysis too, except my highest finish of 4th in any league I've joined doesn't reward much street cred, no matter how fantastic. Just wait until Yao Can't Beat Me (formerly known as Yi Yao Yi Yao Yi Yao until the CCCP stepped in and decided their reputation was more important than my fantasy season, more on this later) tears through the 14-team league that I'm in right now. Then you'll trust me to pick up players like Jose Calderon and Nate Robinson. Yes, I'm actually telling you to pick up an Isiah-coached Knick.
I guess I'll start off by saying that Billy Knight has contributed to the Hawks' losing habits as much as Mike Woodson. Yes, we see Woodson blindly leading this team stocked with young promising lottery picks to a 24-33 record, 3-7 in last 10 (wait, we traded for Mike Bibby 9 games ago?). I see Woodson do more stupid things to ruin a potentially great team than the number of times I've seen him call an isolation play for Joe Johnson at the end of a close game where Joe gets the ball at half-court, dribbles for 15 seconds, launches a tightly-guarded fadeaway 3 that barely grazes front rim while everyone else was too spaced out on the floor to grab the offensive rebound, then dips his head and shoulders in shame and silently berates himself until the next game. Do you feel comfortable with a 12 to 14-point lead with 8:45 left in the 4th quarter against any Eastern playoff team or any Western team period? You can attribute your nervous breakdown as Josh Smith takes a rainbow 3 while the Hawks are down by 6 to the great discipline that Woody has inspired on the team.
But enough about our great coach, at least for now. Billy Knight thinks he can get away with screwing up the franchise by diverting all of the negative attention to the coach that he hired, leaking to the AJC the fact that he tried to fire Woodson multiple times this season. No you don't Billy, it's your fault! You hired the wrong man, gave him absolute disasters for draft picks, then turned a blind eye to his horrendous coaching (69-177 in first 3 years, good for a 28% win percentage) and didn't attempt to give someone else the job, someone with a functioning brain and any knowledge of pro basketball. Then of course during the first playoff-potential season under your management, your friendship with Woodson - which was your actual reason for hiring him - turns sour, and right after you made the blockbuster trade for Bibby that could have lifted the Hawks into the playoffs, you turned the locker room into a mess and gave our players more reason to quit on him. You think our young guys are going to listen to a retarded coach when they find out management tried to fire the guy 3 separate times this season? This may actually turn out to be a positive if the players can just block out Woodson and play exciting, fastbreak Hawks basketball and anything resembling defense. And damn ownership for blocking the firing. They say if you want to win you have to start from the top. We have losers at every level of the organization BUT the players.
More to come on the Hawks, Woodson, Knight, and after I'm done venting my frustration I'll move on to more lighthearted news in the NBA. Like Chris Andersen doing LSD, PCP, meth, and heroin at the same time. Good times.
